Welcome to the Track the Twin doctoral network website. We are a consortium of scientists passionate about quantum dots. Spread out across Europe, we combine a wide set of expertise to tackle persistent issues in quantum dot stability.
Our aim is to reveal modes of failure of quantum dots on three key applications: luminescent solar concentrators, downconverting LEDs and optically pumped lasers. We regroup experts in quantum dot synthesis, electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, neutron scattering, single quantum dot spectroscopy, ultrafast spectroscopy, ultrafast electron diffraction, machine learned force fields and density functional theory. We will use our combined insight to generate a quantum dot digital twin and realize ageing-resilient QDs.
We are part of a Horizon Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network (project number 101168820) aiming to provide 15 doctoral candidates with the skillset to face current and future challenges in materials sciences, energy and sustainability.

Track the Twin Summer School
In collaboration with the Swiss Chemical Society, Track the Twin hosted a summer school on nanocrystals in Haute-Nendaz Switzerland. We had amazing talks and posters, with TTT doctoral candidate Jayashree Narayan wining a poster prize!!
Summer School
In collaboration with the Swiss Chemical Society, Track the Twin is hosting a Summer School on Nanocrystals. The school will occur from August 16th to 20th in beautiful Nendaz, Switzerland. We have an exceptional list of speakers: Benjamin Abécassis, Jonathan De Roo, Pieter Geiregat, Philippe Guyot-Sionnest, Maria Ibáñez, Dan Oron, Laura Piveteau, Pete Sercel, Dmitry Talapin, Hendrik Utzat, Sandra Van Aert and Vanessa Wood. Third Workshop on Structural Characterization of QDs
We had our third workshop in Antwerp on Structural Characterization of Quantum Dots! We had insightful presentations by Professors Annick De Backer, Johan Verbeek and Federica Bertolotti We also had wonderful presentations by Track the Twin members Sara Bals, Sandra Van Aert and Jose M Porro.
Doctoral candidate Gabriel Chiquitto gave an insightful hands on training on electron microscopy.

Colloidal quantum dots for optoelectronics
Check our Methods Primer on Colloidal Quantum Dots from Track the Twin members Ivan Infante, Philippe Green, Sara Bals and Zeger Hens with contributions from Arjan Houtepen, Ted Sargent, Jonathan Owen, Richard Schaller, Stefan Zeiske and Thilo Stoferle.
This review covers the fundamentals of quantum dots, best practices, and future directions, forming the basis for Track the Twin’s research.
Second workshop on Quantum Dots Computation
We had our second workshop in Bilbao on Quantum Dot computation! We had learned from Professors Eran Rabani, Juan Ignacio Climente, Oleksandr Voznyy, and Christophe Delerue. We also had two presentations by Track the Twin members Nuri Yazdani and Ivan Infante.
Doctoral candidate Masuma Suleymanova gave an insightful hands on training on using DFT for QDs.
Next workshop will be in February 2026 in Antwerp!!
